iPad Was Announced

Apple finally presented the Multi-Touch iPad. It's a half-inch thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds,7.47 inches wide with a 9.7-inch capacitive, a glass-covered, oleophobic touchscreen IPS (in-plane switching) LCD display, and it is running acustom 1GHz Apple A4 chip developed by the P.A. Semi team.
Maximum screen resolution is 1,024x768 pixels. It has a 10-hour battery life Video output is available using a dock adapter, but HDMI is not recognized. Camera attachment kit lets you import photos from your camera over USB or directly through an SD reader. Below the screen is a home button that looks and do the same function as the button on the iPhone and iPod Touch. A volume button and mute switch sit on the right side. Three storage capacities are available, including 16GB ($499), 32GB ($599), and 64GB ($699). There's a 30-pin Dock connector, a speaker, a microphone, Bluetooth, 802.11n WiFi and optional 3G, and also an accelerometer and useful compass. The device is managed by iTunes, just like the iPhon. As expected, it can run all iPhone apps today.
A line of iPads with 3G wireless data support (microSIM) are due out in May with the same capacity range, only it will cost $130 extra for each respective model (i.e.,16GB $629, 32GB $729, and 64GB $829). If you go the 3G route, you'll also need to pay for an additional data plan (currently provided by AT&T with no contract), setting you back $14.99 a month for 250MB of data, or $29 for "unlimited" contract-free usage. As data plans go, those prices are very reasonable, but they are tied to the device and can't be shared with your phone or other Internet-capable devices. The WiFi-only model will ship in 60 days, and the 3G models will come in 90. Activations are handled on the iPad, so you can activate and cancel whenever you want. Every iPad is unlocked and comes with a GSM "micro-SIM," so you can use it abroad, but there aren't any international deals in place right now.
