A new Category in the App Store?

Share/Save/Bookmark

We have mentioned twice that Apple started to ban “explicitly sexual” apps. Well, it appears that the company might reinstate many of the 5000 removed iPhone applications in a new category. The iTunes store for a moment showed a new “Explicit” category. It is a curious turn that nobody has expected.

Different resources have confirmed that the company has created the “Explicit” category for new submissions. It appeared in the drop-down menus, and iPhone app developers could select this category to place in their new applications. “Explicit” could be found alongside the usual App Store categories such as “Games” or “Books”.

Right now nobody can explain the reason for this step. Apple might reconsider its decision to ban “sexy” apps and place them in a new category. The company is able to make this “Explicit” menu even invisible for a particular age-group.

By the way, “Explicit” is no longer in the iTunes category options. Apple says that they are truly thinking about taking such a step. However, it won’t happen anytime soon.
