Smartphone sector is growing. Smartphone developers did really well all through 2009, selling 172.4 million devices, a 23.8 % increase over 2008. Because of that interest in smartphones such as the Apple iPhone and the Google Nexus One was increased.

Google Nexus One was increased.  Product sales exploded in the final quarter, getting 53.8 million.  According to a report introduced by the analytics firm Gartner, smart phone sales in quarter 4 of 2009 were up 41 percent from the same time last year.
The good news: Gartner expected that quarter 4's  push would likely carry into 2010. "The mobile devices market finished on a very positive note, driven by growth in smart phones and low-end devices," Gartner mentioned in a statement.
First place went to Nokia's Symbian, which shipped on more than 80 million handsets last year. But second place went to BlackBerry, and third place to Apple's iPhone OS. Apple, which made the iPhone, and BlackBerry, which made  RIM both won share. There are 14.4 percent (iPhone) and a 19.9 percent (RIM) of the 100% global smartphone market. Apple's  percent slice of the smartphone market went up by 6.2 percentage points, pushing it into third place. Smartphones  which are based on the Google Android OS saw progress last year too, increasing their piece of the market in 2009 by 3.5 percentage points. Android phones sales really should continue to come up, despite the fact that it was misunderstandings over Google's reputation in the market, according to Gartner. Roberta Cozza, principal research analyst at Gartner, said in a statement: "If such worries cause producers to change their product strategies or CSPs(communications service providers) to change which devices they stock, this might slow down Android's growth in 2010."
