It is Known Who Stole and Sold iPhone 4G Prototype

Share/Save/Bookmark

The person who found the iPhone 4G prototype in California and sold it to Gizmodo has been identified.

The thief is a 21-year-old Brian J. Hogan. He lives in Redwood City, and according to wired.com he was paid by Gizmodo for selling the iPhone 4G to them. He didn’t do much to return the gadget to its owner, which Hogan regrets.

Even though the guy received money from the site, he supposed the payment was for the exclusive access to the phone. According to lawyer Jeffrey Bronstein, Gizmodo told Brian that was ok to share the device with the press.

Is it a crime or a theft? This is the question asked by attorneys. One expert thinks that the thief is one of those people who are being looked at as a suspect in theft.

If you remember the whole story, Brian had time to see a Facebook page of the iPhone owner but after this the device shut down. It didn’t operate the entire time the guy had it.

Once they found out the device cover was fake, Hogan’s friend made efforts to return the iPhone 4G to Apple Care. But his efforts failed. So he offered the phone to a couple of journalists.

What’s next? The story will still have another chapter…
